Marriage was ordained by God in Genesis 2:24. Although this book expresses the joys of wedded love, both Jews and Christians see deeper meaning in the book. Israel is referred to as God's Wife (see Ezekiel chapters 16 and 23 for example). The church is called the Bride of Christ (see Ephesians 5:23 for example).
